This competition was organized by ArchDais. The competition’s challenge was clear: design a sanctuary for the secular world that promotes inclusivity and peaceful dialogue among diverse religious communities.
Solution
Dimensions is our response to this noble mission. It is envisioned as a space where individuals of all backgrounds can find solace and engage in meaningful, respectful conversations. Our design focuses on creating an environment that transcends religious affiliations, fostering unity, understanding, and peaceful coexistence. This space intends to nurture an environment where diverse beliefs intersect, fostering harmony and meaningful dialogue for a more inclusive world. Join me as I explore the essence of a secular space and its magnetic qualities that attract people and designing a sanctuary that transcends differences and celebrates our common human values.
What binds us together?
Community, woven through life, finds a pillar in religion. Examining diverse practices reveals commonalities: reverence for water, timeless wisdom stories, and architectural plays with light. Despite differences, a universal truth connects us.
Physical reality unites us, shaping our shared human experience. In moments of seeking faith in something greater, we entrust it to the vast universe and its powerful energies. Accessible through knowledge, health, kindness, acceptance, and self-expression, these energies embody a universal connection.
Stephen Hawking's "Theory of Everything," illustrated by the Calabi-Yau model, holds answers to profound cosmic questions. It symbolizes our quest for understanding and unity within the intricate dimensions of our reality.
The core concept behind this space is to ensure effortless accessibility for people at any hour. The deliberate choice of its neighborhood location revolves around providing residents with the convenience of access around the clock. Rather than being a destination, this space is designed to serve as a pause in their daily journey, readily available whenever needed. The architecture itself unfolds across three distinct levels, each representing a different facet of consciousness. Together, these elements create an environment that encourages personal growth and exploration.
